I recently did a major fortification of the 300 inch powerhouse in the Wantland Race Transporter. It now has:
Clifford Aluminum Four Barrel Intake Manifold
Clifford Dual Outlet Headers
Road Demon 525 Four Barrel Carburetor
Summit Racing Dual Feed Fuel Line and Air Cleaner Assembly
Lokar Hi-Tech Throttle Cable
New Fuel Pump
Holley Fuel Pressure Regulator
-06 an Braided Fuel Line
Dual 2.25" exhaust with 24" glasspacks
Added Painted "Power by Ford" Valve Cover, and also painted the side cover
Added Power Steering
Replaced 18" wide radiator with Brand New 24"
I also got some new white spoke wheels and 4 new Hercules Tires, Terra-Trac M/T's on the back, MRX Plus IV on front. They are 235/75R15's.

EVERYTHING THAT FOLLOWS IS FROM PRIOR TO THE UPGRADES LISTED ABOVE.

Since I got the truck, I have done a number of things under the hood. Here is a shot as it was originally:

Note that the breather hose is not connected to the air cleaner, so when there is vacuum in the PCV system, dirty air is pulled through the breather, into the crankcase, and ultimately, into the intake charge. Hence the reason for the self-filtered chrome breather cap. I also removed the EGR system by using a non-EGR carb spacer from a truck which was originally equipped as such. If you are considering this type of thing yourself, it is useful to know that there are at least two different types of carb spacers: the one for my truck has no vacuum outlet, but there are some with a vacuum outlet that actually have a different mounting hole spacing. Here is an example comparing the two types:

In a bout of stupidity, I bought a 4" chrome air cleaner assembly and installed it, and before I removed it, I had double stacked filter elements to get enough airflow. Here is a pic:

My electric choke was non-functioning, so I decided to convert it to manual with a kit I got for about $11 at the parts store. The kit was very complete, with a choke cover, cable, housing, knob, mounting brackets, hardware and instructions. Installation took under an hour. The pics below show a before shot with the boxed kit and an after shot, where you can see the silver cable housing and mounting bracket above the valve cover. Also, notice the upgrade to a 10" air cleaner, which I inherited from Isaac after we replaced the one on his truck.

One day I realized that the above-pictured chrome air cleaner was not sealing all the way around the carburetor and dirt would be able to get into my engine. I needed a solution, and the best one I could come up with was to find a taller filter element for my factory housing, and here it is (it is NAPA #2049):

In the above picture, you can also see my MSD Blaster 2F coil and Accel 8mm wires. I also installed new plugs gapped to .050", and it seems to start better.

I also came across a coolant recovery system for about $5 at Autozone, and since I was tired of always topping off my radiator, and I had seen a very similar kit for over twice as much at another store, I got it and installed it. I have been very satisfied. Install was simple, and now whatever coolant expands out of the radiator is drawn back in when it cools. This has the added benefit of being environmentally friendly. Here is a picture:

The only thing I have done that has substantially improved the performance has been my homemade exhaust system.
